Saint-Sauveur donates 2 tonnes of medicine to “Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi Foundation”.

One of the priority of the First Lady of the Country is the care of people suffering from sickle cell anemia. The Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi Foundation revolves around 4 axes: health, education, the empowerment of women and the fight against violence against women.

On December 19, 2019, Saint-Sauveur donated 2 tonnes of European specialty medicines to the Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi Foundation. The drugs were delivered to the “Centre de Médecine Mixte et d’Anémie SS (Hopital Mabanga)” specializing in the care of sickle cell anemia.

Recall that 20 million Congolese are carriers of the sickle cell gene and can transmit the disease to their children. Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disorder affecting the hemoglobin in red blood cells. It is mainly manifested by anemia, painful attacks and increased susceptibility to infections. Although the life expectancy of patients has been increased – thanks to the development of treatments – these do not fully cure the disease.
